Business Development Associate
Early stage researcher with strong scientific background and keen interest in technology transfer and innovation. Having obtained a BSc in Molecular Biology and Genetics (DUTH, Greece) and a MSc in Cancer Biology (DKFZ and University of Heidelberg, Germany), I moved on to pursue a PhD at the University of Manchester. My main research focus is melanoma immunology and I have a strong interest in the field of cancer immunotherapies.
During my PhD studies I developed a collaboration with a spin off company, in which I conducted some of my thesis work. This taught me how exciting and motivating conducting research in an industrial setup is and has strengthened my desire to work in this sector. During my PhD program I also attended a series of workshops around the theme of business engagement, in which I was introduced to the concepts of inventions and intellectual property, and regulatory framework governing the development of health applications, which made my interest in the development of business ideas and entrepreneuring grow.
I am currently a final year PhD student and coming closer to finalizing my PhD and entering the working world. I have a keen interest in acquiring some valuable volunteering work experience outside the lab, to expand my network and develop soft skills which will be assets for my future professional career. I intend to pursue a career in pharmaceutical/biotech industry after the completion of my doctoral studies. Joining the Innovation Forum team is a great opportunity to network with industry professionals and be initiated into the industrial culture and mentality.
